Celebrating 7 Years

Seven years ago today an amazing team of volunteers helped to lift our belongings up the hill from the town to the countryside and we began this great adventure.  We had a 17 month old, a 3 year, a 5 year old and a 6 year old.  And somehow with a now 8 year old,  a 10 year old, a 12 year old and a 13 year old the adventure still feels as fresh as it ever did.  I never take it for granted that we live as we do.

A little reminiscing is allowed today. I have been looking back at old photos, but none as old as the ones I intend to look at later today with the children.

On yesterday’s grocery shop I replenished our obscelete stock of tin foil and cling film. The children put away the shopping while I taught a violin lesson. On completion I discovered that not only had they put away the shopping but they had used a vast quantity of tin foil and cling film making a home made slide projector and home made slides. They rigged up a circuit inside the home made projector, with their little physics circuit, to light the bulb and then treated us to a “slide” show. Such are the exploits of the home educated! And my response today is to get out the real slide projector and to show them some real slides – Grandpa’s! History, Physics, Design and Public speaking (from Rich Tea Boy a.k.a “The Showman” who provided us with an informed slide show) all in one self instigated lesson.
