“When did the world turn to colour?” Tom asked his mother.
“Hmm…Now let me think” and she squished her lips into their thinking shape.
“I think the world turned into colour when God made Adam and Eve.”
“When God made Adam and Eve? As long ago as that?” Tom’s eyebrows shot up in his look of surprise.
“Yes” his mother explained, “when God made Adam, He made him one colour and Eve He made another colour, and from then on every person He made since has been or is a very slightly different colour. Everyone is a different hue and He hasn’t made one person the same colour as another. God is an artist, you see and He turned the world into colour when He made people. You and me, we’re different, and as you get bigger, my boy, you’ll see how colourful life becomes because of people.”
“Oh!” Tom let his mother’s wisdom slowly sift through the filter of his mind.
“It was just that I was looking at a book about the Victorians and all the photos show them living in a very grey, dark world.”
